“No one have provoked more than Vinge and Müller,” Norwegian critic Cornelius C. Steinkjer proclaimed upon watching the duo’s critically acclaimed Byggmeister Solness at Det Norske Teatret (The Norwegian Theatre) this fall. No breaks, plenty of nudity, shrieking sounds, Wagner, and Panini football cards: the universe of Vinge/Müller is one that enchants and disturbs, enthralls and disgusts. Vinge/Müller are celebrated by leading European theater journals such as Theater heute, and all their German productions have been invited to Theatertrefffen, the Oscar of theatre. The latest performance of their infamous Ibsen-saga, Byggmeister Solness, was created in close dialogue with performance artist Julian Blaue. His work with the duo stretches back to a Pastor Manders performance he did in their staging of Ghosts in 2007 and a “terroristic” Onion-without-Core-scene that he wrote for a performance Vinge/Müller did at the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin.

In this In-House Seminar, Blaue will perform a short Solness’ Sermon-against the Apocalypsis which he wrote and developed with reference to Vinge/Müller’s staging of Ibsen’s The Master Builder. Answering any questions from students and other attendants during his visit at the University of Oslo, Blaue will also give us insights into one of the most talked-about creative processes concerning Ibsen today. The Centre for Ibsen Studies encourages the participants to prepare questions.

Please note that this seminar will be streamed. More information will follow.

Julian Blaue is a performance artist, dramatist, dramaturge, theater critic, and most things in-between. He recently delivered his artistic-scientific PhD thesis The Personal Encounter with World Politics. Blaue has collaborated with Vinge/Müller on several occasions since performing Pastor Manders in their version of Ghosts at Black Box Theater in Oslo in 2007.
