Research

My research is situated in the area of experimental pragmatics and semantics. Using a variety of methods such as eye-tracking, behavioral tasks, and questionnaires, I investigate how children and adults process aspects of language such as figurative speech, pronouns, and speech reports. I am particularly interested in the role that attention plays in the pragmatic development of monolingual and multilingual children.

I am the project manager of the project "Better attention, better communication? How ADHD and multilingualism influence children’s pragmatic development", funded by The Research Council of Norway (2021-2024). The goal of the project is to investigate the role of visual and executive attention in the pragmatic development of monolingual and multilingual children with and without Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

I am also a member of the PolkaNorski project, a project that investigates the development of language skills and world knowledge in Polish-Norwegian multilingual children and their monolingual peers in Poland and Norway.

Lab and EyeHub 

I am managing MultiLing’s Socio-Cognitive Laboratory, a laboratory to study the processing and production of languages across the lifespan. I am also one of the founders and the coordinator of EyeHub, an interdisciplinary network for eye-tracking and pupillometry research at UiO. 

Background

I have a PhD from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, and a MA in German Language & Literature, and Philosophy from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Before joining MultiLing, I worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oslo in the project "Acquiring Figurative Meanings".
