Jeg har flere faglige interesseområder. Moderne japansk litteratur/kultur/popkultur, og kultur- og samfunnsutvikling i dagens Japan herunder kvinnestilling. Tekst- og kontekstbasert litteratur- og kulturanalyse er mitt hovedkompetanseområde, men jeg har også publisert artikler om kvinnes stilling og eldreomsorg i Japan fra et komparativt samfunnsvitenskapelig perspektiv.
