Pågående og planlagte forskningsprosjekter ved IMV

 

Leader of Norwegian Research Council state funded project (2010-2014) Popular Music and Gender in a Transcultural Context. This project carries new research posts, including three affiliated PhD scholars (Birgitte Sandve, Erlend Hegdal, Jon Mikkel Ålvik), a postdoctoral researcher (Mats Johansson), six MA students and a research assistant (position to be announced). In addition, the project will include a network of scholars from leading research institutions in Finland, Ireland, Denmark, France, Germany, South Africa, the USA and UK. Co-editor for a collection of international essays on the music of the late Michael Jackson for the USA's most prestigious journal of popular music, Popular Music and Society and the publication date is set for 2011. This will signify the very first collection of scholastic articles that address the musicological aspects of Jackson's work. Prime focus will fall on the music analytical qualities of such research, albeit within an interdisciplinary framework that pertain to popular music studies.

Editor of a volume, Pop Music and Easy Listening, for the Ashgate Library of Popular Music Essays, commissioned by Allan Moore. Includes an introductory essay on the topic of the collection, as well as highlighting the developments in musicological studies as they relate to popular music. Editor of a Festschrift for Derek Scott, Critical Musicological Reflections, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Original essays in tribute will be provided by some of the best known scholars in the field of musicology: David Cooper, Charlie Ford, Franco Fabbri, Lucy Green, Antoine Hennion, Lawrence Kramer, Vesa Kurkela, Richard Leppert, Susan McClary, Allan Moore, John Richardson, Peter Wicke and Sheila Whiteley. Collaborative Book Project on Prince
A three year project completed with Sarah Niblock (Brunel University, London) that researches into the music and identity of the living legend, Prince. This study forges a link between musicological scholarship and psychoanalysis by addressing a wide range of issues that represent the generational arrival of a superstar. Book due for publication 2011.

Chapter commissioned for Oxford Handbook of New Audiovisual Aesthetics, edited by Claudia Gorbman, Carol Vernallis and John Richardson. To be published in 2012 by Oxford University Press, consisting of international scholars including Michel Chion, Lawrence Kramer, Tia de Nora, Nicholas Cook and Nicola Dibben.
