Current Research Activities

Leader of Norwegian Research Council state funded project (2010-2015) Popular Music and Gender in a Transcultural Context. This project carries new research posts, including four affiliated PhD scholars, Birgitte Sandve, Erlend Hegdal, Jon Mikkel Ålvik, and Lars Norberg, postdoctoral researcher Mats Johansson, research assistant, Mari Paus and five MA students. In addition, the project includes an extensive network of scholars from leading research institutions in Canada, Finland, Ireland, Denmark, France, Germany, South Africa, the USA and UK. The start up seminar was held on 16 March 2011 at MIC, Nasjonalbiblioteket, Oslo, featuring keynote addresses by Susan McClary, Jacqueline Warwick and Hege Duckert. To date one national seminar and a Nordic seminar have been held, profiling ongoing research projects and guest lectures by Robert Walser, Keith Negus, Derek Scott, John Richardson, Philip Tagg, Barbara Bradby, Jacqueline Roxborough, and Steven Feld. Chapter commissioned for Oxford Handbook of New Audiovisual Aesthetics, edited by Claudia Gorbman, Carol Vernallis and John Richardson.
