Current leadership responsibilities
Departmental head of studies from January 2021
Fields of expertise
Most of my research has focused on Latin American and Caribbean history in the 18th and 19th centuries, and has circled principally around two broad themes: 1) the transition from monarchical/colonial rule to republican nation-states in Latin America and its social and political ramifications; and 2) Scandinavian migration to and within Latin America between independence (ca 1820) until World War II.
Currently, I pursue some research ideas that entail comparisons of Scandinavian and Latin American issues between 1500 and 1850.
Outside these areas, I have broad interests in Latin American, Caribbean, European and global history from ca 1500 to the present, and I have supervised a number of bachelor, master and Phd theses.
