About the group

This research group serves as a hub for interdisciplinary discussions and collegial support in the study and teaching of medieval history. We also actively communicate our research activities, which engage external members.

The history of the Middle Ages is a dynamic and global research area that is particularly strong at the University of Oslo.

The Middle Ages is a comprehensive and diverse period, and our research covers the entire period from around 500 to 1500.

The research focuses on Europe and Scandinavia understood within a global context, and we draw on a broad selection of methodological and historiographical approaches in our analyses of the surviving sources.

Some of our research topics include:
•    The history of Poland in the Middle Ages
•    The history of Ukraine in the Viking Age
•    Legal history
