Academic interests

My research interests encompass Ancient Philosophy from the Presocratics, particularly Parmenides and Empedocles, through Plato, the Early Academy, especially Xenocrates, and Aristotle, as well as Ancient Medicine and Ancient Mathematics. I work on questions in epistemology, natural philosophy, psychology, and metaphysics, with particular emphasis on the ways in which these areas intersect in ancient thought.

Background

I am part of MatNat as Post Doctoral Fellow with a project titled Redefining Xenocrates' Mathematising Platonism. The project advances a demanding interpretation of Xenocrates, showcasing the development of an original and programmatic philosophy that underpins a strongly mathematising metaphysics and cosmology, which has as its starting point the Timaeus.

I studied Philosophy at the University of Pisa, where I completed a BA in Philosophy (2015–2018) and an MA in Philosophy and Forms of Knowledge (2018–2020), both with highest honours. My undergraduate dissertation examined the role of mathematical number in the Early Academy on the basis of Aristotle’s testimony. I subsequently focused my MA research on Xenocrates, investigating his account of the categories and principles under the supervision of Bruno Centrone and Phillip S. Horky.

From 2021 to 2025, I pursued a PhD in Classics at Durham University, where I worked on the metaphysics of Parmenides and the development of ancient conceptions of parts and wholes. My doctoral dissertation, Parmenides and Ancient Mereology, was supervised by Phillip S. Horky and Anna Marmodoro.
