Interdisciplinary Workshop: Social Discrimination

An interdisciplinary workshop for bachelor and master students interested in learning and discussing about social discrimination in Norway

What is social discrimination? In what ways does it interfere in people's lives? How can the individual respond to being discriminated? How can everyone contribute to a more inclusive and fair society?

By posing these questions, the interdisciplinary workshop offers a space for discussion and critical examination of social discrimination in the Norwegian context.

By employing philosophical, sociological, geographical, anthropological, and pedagogical perspectives, the course merges theoretical analysis with practical approaches to understand and confront this pervasive social issue.

This interdisciplinary approach makes it possible for the workshop to account for the many faces of discrimination, such as discrimination based on age, disability, gender, class, ethnicity, race, or religion.

The general questions addressed by the workshop are:

  • What is social discrimination?

  • How can education discriminate

  • How can a city discriminate?

  • How can technology discriminate?

Admission

The workshop is primarily aimed at bachelor and master students in the Humanities, Educational Sciences, and Social Sciences, but is open to any student at the University of Oslo. If space allows, interested students from other Norwegian institutions may also be welcomed. Registration is now closed.
