The complexity of the contemporary world often demands that we venture outside of our disciplinary comfort zones. The challenge is to embrace the skills and values of our own disciplinary training, whilst also allowing for new and exciting possibilities for research far beyond the confines of an individual subject area. In this talk, Antonia Thomas explores how the varied approaches more common in creative practice can help those of us in the humanities who are struggling with disciplinary placement in an undisciplined age.

Antonia Thomas is an archaeologist and interdisciplinary researcher based in Orkney, Scotland, where she leads the MA Contemporary Art and Archaeology at the University of the Highlands and Islands. This unique course combines contemporary archaeology with creative practice, using these as springboards for a range of creative engagements that go beyond either discipline.
