Introduction to Norwegian
Learn to speak, write and understand basic Norwegian, with this free, four-week, introductory foreign language course.
This is a beginner’s course. It introduces Norwegian phonetics and basic grammar, e.g. word order, the declension of nouns and verbs, the use of tenses and pronouns and expressions of time. Topics covered include greetings and presenting oneself, shopping, leisure time, studies, living conditions, tourist attractions and expressing needs, feelings and assessments.
By the end of the course you should be able to take part in simple conversations about the topics listed above, as well as, in a basic way, be able to read and write about the same. Your pronunciation of the sounds introduced in the course should be good enough so that you will be understood by other Norwegian speakers. You should have a relevant basis for further Norwegian language learning.
Erik Juriks, Annely Tomson and Roger Solberg have, with good help from Lasse Morten Johannesen, created this fun introductory course to Norwegian. All four educators have taught Norwegian at the University of Oslo for many years so you can be sure to be in the best of hands.
