Academic interests

My research investigates what makes television content travel. Particularly, I am interested in understanding the rise of new players in the global television market and the shifts in audience preferences and practices.

In my PhD thesis, I researched the seemingly atypical expansion of Turkish television dramas (dizi) in Spain by linking audience motivations and industry strategies. In doing so, I was able to examine transnational media flows beyond arguments of cultural proximity and contribute to the conceptualization of contemporary audiences.

In previous projects, I investigated the audience reception of Turkish dramas and Latin American telenovelas in Brazil and Uruguay. I have also analyzed narrative innovations in Brazilian telenovelas in response to market transformations.

Overall, I am curious about the many ways culture, media, and people are interconnected – and my favorite way to explore this is by listening to what people have to say.

Background

I hold a PhD in Media and Communication from the University of Oslo, where I defended my thesis, titled From Istanbul to Madrid: Exploring transnational media flows through the expansion of Turkish television dramas in Spain, in 2026.

Before moving to Norway, I completed a Master’s degree in Communication at the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a concentration in Advertising and Marketing from the same institution.
