Academic interests
Researcher working at the intersection of media, journalism and technology. I am part of "HumAIn – A Humanities Hub for the Reimagination of AI" and serve on the editorial team of the journal MedieKultur.
Through 2025 I was a PhD-candidate working with the research project "Photofake – Visual Disinformation, the Digital Economy and the Epistemology of the Camera Image" funded by the Research Council of Norway. My main research interests here have been:
- Visual Source Criticism and Open Source Investigations
- AI, Photorealism and Technical Camera-Based Practices
- Potential for Disinformation in New Media
The result was the dissertation "Visual Open Source Investigative Journalism: Premises, Practices, and Prospects" which explores how journalism, through its increasing reliance on eyewitness images, adapts to a fragmented and visually saturated digital information landscape.
I have worked extensively with new and emerging forms of media over the last decade, especially user-generated content (UGC) and its role and use in traditional media. My book "Digital kildekritikk" [Digital Source Criticism] was published by Gyldendal Akademisk in 2021.
In 2024 Routledge published an updated English version: Evaluating Digital Sources in Journalism: An Introduction to Digital Source Criticism.
