About the seminar
Social media age limitations are imposed and debated in many countries. The bans remain contested among the public and communication scholars alike. In this seminar, we invite participants to a conversation about age limitations from the perspective of (dis)connection studies.
Disconnection scholars often argue against individual responsibilisation and in favour of platform regulation, yet remain divided about whether age limits are the right measure. This is also the case in Norway, where the Government has proposed a 16-year-old limit on social media.
Two panellists from the Digitox project will present arguments for and against social media age bans. Participants will be encouraged to voice opinions, questions, reflections and ambiguities.
The seminar is Wed, November 4th from 14 to 15 (Norway time, CET).
Participants
- Brita Ytre-Arne (University of Bergen)
- Mehri S. Agai (University of Bergen)
