About the project

What are the consequences of AI for freedom of expression and media diversity? What new forms of media source criticism do we need to establish?

The rapid rise of AI-generated content has yet to be fully understood, and this research project aims to address this knowledge gap to ensure a more informed and nuanced public discourse.

Project Aims

We aim to study the impact of generative AI on society and individuals, specifically how it can make people vulnerable to political influence and how AI-generated content can dominate public discourse.

In this project we will advise on critical media literacy and regulation of AI-generated content, complementing the insights of the Norwegian Media Authority and investigate how AI-generated content affects media diversity and critical media understanding.

We will also explore the experiences of content creators and users of AI-generated content, and the consequences of an AI-driven public sphere on freedom of expression and participation.

The project will address five research questions to achieve these goals.
