Academic interests and background

I am a historian on modern Scandinavia/Norden and Europe, working on gender history, feminism, emotions, the history of knowledge (including modern historiography), entrepreneurship and business. I studied at the University of Bergen and the European University Institute in Florence, and worked at Stein Rokkan Centre of Social Research (NORCE), Forum for University History, at the University of Oslo (UiO, Norwegian Business School BI, and The Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, before returning to the UiO in 2017.

I am currently leading the interdisciplinary research project Nordic Branding: The Politics of Exceptionalism, which runs until 2021 and is financed by the UiO:Nordic. I represent the permanent staff on The Departement Board of IAKH (2021-24). In addition, I sit on the board of the Norwegian Historical Association (HIFO), the council of Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Stavanger, and the board of Moss City and Industrial Museum (politically elected).

Ongoing Research

I am currently working on the relationship between money, gender and suffrage before and after universal suffrage in the Nordic region and beyond with colleagues from Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. In addition, I´m involved in research on the use of history in Nordic nation branding processes, among them a comparison of the women´s vote centenary celebrations of Finland (2006-2007), Norway (2013) and Sweden (2018-2022). I am also editing an introduction to the history of emotions in cooperation with graduate students at the department. This book will be available in Norwegian only. The same counts for a reader which I am currently working on, introducing key historical texts to undergraduate students of history.

My most recent book is Gender Equality and Nation Branding in the Nordic Region (eds.) published in June 2021 by Rutledge (OPEN ACCESS).
