I am mentor for bachelor students in the History of Ideas.
My research interests focuses on Early Modern intellectual history.
I graduated from the University of Oslo as cand.philol. in 2000. My cand.philol. thesis was about Laurence van der Post and his view of racialism, using post-colonial African thinkers to criticise him. During the period 2000–2005 I was hired to advise students studying intellectual history on their writing of term papers. Since 2006 I have had a permanent position as lecturer in the History of Ideas, working mainly with BA-students.
Projects
Reiseskildringer og tidligmoderne vitensproduksjon
This project is concerned with knowledge making from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment and focuses on the development of anthropological and geographical knowledge produced through travel writing from Africa. My starting point is that travel writing was part of early moderne debates on the human condition engaged in by Early Modern Humanists.
English thought in the 17th century
What happened to the Elizabethan world picture during the 17th century with a particular focus on changes in the view of knowledge.
Giovanni Battista Ramusio
In this project I am interested in the processes of knowledge making in which Ramusio engaged when producing Navigationi et viaggi (1550–1559).
