Academic interests
I am a researcher affiliated with two projects - Creativity and Convention in Pragmatic Development, and DEVCOM - both of which investigated the development of non-literal language comprehension in children. Each project employs a novel methodology combining both implicit and explicit tasks, to try and map more precisely the effects that growing sensitivity to sense conventions might have on this development.
My own work broadly investigates the syntax-pragmatics interface; more narrowly, investigates how the phenomenology of grammar differs between individuals and groups. My PhD thesis incorporated ideas from diverse fields (poetics, enactivism, and neuroqueer theory, among others) to position grammar, and language generally as a kind of play that we do with conventions, and then ask what that means for how we develop linguistic and other intersubjective skills.
Elsewhere, my interests include ecological philosophy, queer theory, herbalism, and cultural epistemology broadly. I am deeply interested in selfhood, how we come to construct a self, and the degree to which individuation, altercentrism, empathy and other aspects of phenomenology of self are afforded equally to different groups across populations.
I use, and ask others to use when referring to me, the pronouns she/her (hun/henne).
