Academic interests

Sissel Furuseth's research is focused on Scandinavian literature from the 18th century up till today. Her main research interests are within the fields of 1) literary criticism and periodical studies, 2) ecocriticism and environmental literature, and 3) versification and poetry studies. She is affiliated with the Oslo School of Environmental Humanities, coordinating the collaboratory Critical Petroaesthetics.


In 2017-2019, Furuseth was Head of Research at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Oslo. From 1996 to 2016 she worked at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. She was the project manager for the inter-university research project The History of Literary Critical Response in Norway, 1870-2000: Value-Judgments and Mediation (funded by the Research Council of Norway, 2009-2015) and coordinating a Master’s program of Art Criticism at the Faculty of Arts at NTNU (2007-2014).
