Alessandro Palumbo

--------------

I wish to stand as a candidate for the Department Board because I want to contribute actively and constructively to ILN’s development in the upcoming years.

My core values as a faculty member are to strive for excellence in both teaching and research, collegiality and co-operation among research milieus, and transparency and inclusion in the decision-making processes. If elected, these values will decisively inform my work on the Board.

It is essential that our faculty members and students continue to thrive and are put in a position to be able to do their best work, even amid economic pressures, because we and our students are the Department’s most important assets. A responsible and strategic use of the Department’s finances is central to achieving this.

In the challenging times ahead, it is more critical than ever that we strive for collegial relationships among research milieus and subject areas. If elected, I will work towards improving the collaboration and work climate between research milieus and against internal competition, keeping the Department’s best interest at heart.

Transparency, fairness, and inclusion are fundamental aspects of good decision-making processes, especially in times of economic uncertainties and difficulties. If elected, I will advocate for inclusion as well as clear and open communication regarding all decisions that impact our community. This includes an open dialogue about budget allocations, policy changes, and strategic initiatives. If elected, I will dedicate myself to being a proactive and accessible representative.

I have been employed at ILN as an associate professor since 2020, and since 2023 I have served as Head of Research at the Department. During these years, especially in my leadership position, I have tried to always act according to the values I described above. This experience has also given me a good understanding of both the strengths of the Department and the challenges it faces, insights into the work and needs of permanent and temporary staff, as well as into decision-making processes and how the Department board operates.

I am not afraid to speak my mind, even when my opinions go against those of others, while firmly believing in the importance of having a constructive and respectful debate climate. Collectively, I believe that my experiences and character features make me a good candidate to represent the permanent staff on the Department board.
